Character Information
Character Name: Satoshi Uujima
Character Series: Irisu Syndrome !
Character Age: Let’s go with around 19.
Character Gender: Male
Original Canon
Canon Point: Beginning of trip.
Background Link: At first glance, there’s not a lot of canon to be had in Irisu Syndrome. The ‘Start’ button immediately drops you on a moderately complicated puzzle game. Upon losing, as you eventually will, you receive a CG. It is at this time that we are introduced to our protagonists: Edogawa Takeru, Age Hatori, and Satoshi Uujima (‘Uuji’, for short). The three of them are university students on a summer camping trip, which offers such joys as going to the beach, fishing and telling horror stories. It is during one of these horror stories that Agehas mentions a rabbit witch she saw that day. She is not taken seriously by the other two, and they quickly forget about it. It isn’t long until Edogawa disappears from the trip. At Ageha’s insistence, they go searching for him, and Uuji disappears shortly afterwards. The last of the five CGs shows Ageha sitting alone, wondering where the other two went.
It is at this point that the story branches. The game you play is literally one the murderer is playing in her own mind, and the farther you go, the more time you give her to reflect and regret her plans.
If you fail to get under a certain amount of points in 5 games, a news report will indicate that the three of them were killed, shortly followed by an announcement that Edogawa’s corpse was found.
If you don’t, however, Ageha retreats into the cabin and finds several notes belonging to the would-be murderer, Irisu Kyouko, a classmate of the three students, and the game’s true main character. I won’t spoil what happens, since it has to be seen to be believed, but things end with the three of them alive and celebrating Ageha’s birthday, which she had completely forgotten.
If you get enough points in the secret mode, Irisu starts dressing normally and openly starts to socialize with the rest of the group. A photo is taken, after which we are treated to some eerie narrating about how this isn't an appropriate 'happy ending'.
Personality: The first thing anyone will notice about Uuji is that he’s pretty detached from the outside world. Having been assigned to the front of the class due to assigned seating, he constantly hears people talking about him, yet he never defends himself, not out of cowardice, but due to not caring at all. In his diaries, he also expresses that he has some difficulty talking, yet when he does, he always chooses his statements with the intention of making them seem neutral, ‘neither good nor bad’, in his words. However, Uuji’s actually a pretty nice guy once you get to know him. Not that you’re likely to get the chance, as he really enjoys his privacy. He tends to stick by himself in the classroom, being a good deal more serious than his classmates. However, he won’t push other people away if they try to talk to him. In fact, he seems to be something of a master at going with the flow, like when he simply nods at being told that he’ll go on a summer trip with two friends. Once he warms up to you though, he can become a little bit more assertive. He starts joking around Edogawa and Ageha, and is even capable of being reassuring once the former goes missing. He also proves completely calm once they tell him about a rabbit witch, although, to be fair, he was told about her by the panicky Ageha.
Uuji’s defining characteristic seems to be the drawings he’s constantly making. It appears all he does during his free time is draw pictures of cats committing suicide (game changer!). Ageha actually found out about this, prompting Uuji to reveal that he was imitating a real-life artist, Andy Riley. Uuji’s fully aware of how strange this habit looks to other people, and he’s prone to denying requests to look at his notebook, but he isn’t really that dedicated about keeping it a secret, as evidenced by his habit of leaving it in class when he goes to the restroom or on errands. He’s actually pretty obsessed with his drawings. The only two hobbies he really seems to have are making these illustrations and, to a much lesser degree, simply procrastinating back home. It appears the former has a considerable relaxing effect on him, and he actually has to get into a proper mood if he’s to fluidly draw his works of art.
Despite his introverted personality, Satoshi has a helpful streak as well. Upon seeing Ageha feeling sick in a hallway, he decided to take her somewhere she could recover, even though he had never even talked to her at the time. He also has a bit of a romantic side when it concerns Irisu, as shown in his diary when he said that he has to pretend to be calm around her, despite constantly feeling happy simply by looking at her. He’s actually pretty cowardly about showing it though, and he constantly stops himself from approaching Irisu, sometimes even making excuses to himself in order to do so. Interestingly enough, he also describes her witch bunny costume as ‘wonderful’. So, there’s that.
Uuji also proves to be quite the philosopher, recalling memories from his childhood in which he is shown to have been deeply reflective from a very early age. While most of the school’s kids visited the cat his class had as a pet, he constantly took trips to the much less popular rabbit’s cage, pondering how the rabbit and cat could be friends despite their social status.
Going from the first CG, he’s not much of a cook, and is actually kind of lazy when there’s work to be had. You can gather this from his most evident physical trait: his half-closed eyes, which always give an aura of simply being chill with the world.
Abilities: Absolutely zero. Uuji’s not even that good at drawing, as far as he’s shown.
Sample Entry: Fun times.
